Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners
Frequently Ask Questions
Enviro Steam
Q: How often should I have my carpets cleaned?
A: We recommend to our customers that they should have their carpets cleaned by a professional about once every 6 months. The combination of heavy traffic and the build up of soil is abrasive and breaks down the carpet fibers. In higher traffic areas, the carpet may need cleaning more often.

Q: How long does it take for my carpets to dry?
A: There are many factors that may affect your carpets drying times. The condition, thickness, the type of materials your carpets are made as well as t he relative humidity and the amount of ventilation in your home. Typically though it can take from 3 up to 24 hours for your carpets to be completely dry.
Q: Why is the Steam Cleaning process recommended by most carpet makers?
A: Steam Cleaning, also referred to as Hot Water Extraction is a process that flushes your carpets to remove imbedded soil. In order to get your carpets truly clean, you need to use water to flush out the cleaning agents and soil. The Enviro Steam five-step process cleans by pre-vacuuming the area, pre-treating heavy traffic areas and spots. Then a special heated carpet cleaning solution is sprayed deep into the carpet fibers to disolve oils and loosen the imbedded soil. Finally we use steam and a powerful vacuum during the extraction process. By combining a specially formulated pH-balanced fiber rinse with extraction we remove the carpet cleaning solution residue right along with the imbedded soil .
Q:How soon will I be able to walk on my carpets after cleaning?
A: Its best to keep pets, children and regular traffic off the carpet for a period of six hours. It wont hurt to use the carpet lightly immediately after cleaning by wearing clean socks or house slippers. This will not cause any problems, just remember to take precautions not to slip when going from damp carpet onto hard surface flooring.
Q: Why is vacuuming important and what type of vacuum should I use?
A: Frequent vacuuming, especially in high-traffic areas, helps to remove soil particles which damage the carpet fibers and dull your carpets appearance. This is the most important thing you can do to prolong the life of your carpet. Additionally the use of area rugs and floor mats in high traffic areas will also help prolong the life of your more expensive wall to wall carpeting and reduce soil build up. It is important that you use a good quality vacuum cleaner, one that agitates the carpet pile and loosens imbedded soil.
Q: What can you do about really tough stains and spots?
A: The best thing that can be done for your carpet is clean the spill as best as possible immediatly after the accident happens. Enviro Steam has experience with a variety of spots and the products to clean up common accidents quickly and efficiently. A few of the spots that we treat include coffee, tea, soft drinks, wine, food spills, grease, wax, ink, and cosmetics.
Q: Can you get the pet odors and pet accidents out of my carpet?
A: Because dogs and cats don't sweat, their urine contains alkaline salts which absorb moisture out of the air, so pet urine never really dries. Pet urine can provide a medium for the growth of bacteria which in turn could contribute to a worsening of the odor problem and permanent color loss, staining and discoloration of the carpet fiber. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath therefore it could be a much more complex problem than on first impression. The urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers affected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases a urine neutralizer, a combination of germicidal and enzyme surface treatments, may be applied. In the most severe cases, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required or even replacement of the carpet and padding.
Q: How long will it take to do the job?
A: Typically a job takes from 1 to 2 1/2 hours depending on the size of the house and the types of treatments needed.
Q: What kind of chemicals do you use?
A: We use only top quality cleaning products consistent with industry standards and manufacturers recommendations. Our products are environmentally friendly, and OSHA and EPA compliant.
Q: What furniture do you move?
A: We will move things like sofas, tables and chairs. We don't move dressers, beds, china cabinets, electronics, pianos and such. All we ask is that you remove breakables and knick knacks from the furniture you want moved.
Q:Will the price change?
A: When you call for an estimate we ask a series of questions which will help detect any conditions which may involve an extra charge. These charges are standard in the industry. We let you know up front what to expect so the choice is always yours.
